What's the "Free Lunch"? There's no such thing!

"Free Lunch" is my boat, a Rockpool Alaw Bach, built by Mike Webb in Anglesey. When my wife and I were starting out in sea-kayaking, the company that I worked for was cutting back on staff luxuries, including the hitherto-free canteen. So when they bought out that benefit, they paid for our new toys: Free Lunch and a SKUK Romany called Dabbler.

  1. "Free Lunch" is also my VHF call sign. Not a very clever choice, as it turned out, because it's too hard to make out above the wind in the microphone and general mayhem ("Kayak three one", "Kayak Free One", etc.).
If you try to reach me on the water by VHF, bear in mind that the radio will often be switched off to conserve battery. If you have a DSC set, use my MMSI: 235905073, as my set will be sure to grab my attention.
