At springs, there is a 3 knot tidal stream to whisk me round Lands End at a convenient time of day (i.e. in daylight...); however, the wind is northerly, leading to "wind over tide" conditions. When wind and tide are opposed like this, the sea state is expected to be much worse than would be suggested by the small change in the relative velocity of air and water. In short, I'm sitting tight until the wind goes into the south.
Fraternised at length with locals and ramblers at the Logan Rock Inn, where, amongst many curiosities is the bill of quantities for the replacement of the eponymous hanging stone after its toppling by tipsy tars, the most interesting knot board I've seen for many a year, and an Admiralty chart from the 1960's illustrated with notable local wrecks (including an 8th century BC Phoenician bireme). This old monochrome chart brought back memories of my father sitting up at night trying to ignore his toothache by working on coastal navigation exercises.
